This Week

Last weekend, Mike and I went to our first meeting of the Improvement and Maintenance Committee in our neighborhood. We got the chance to meet some more of our neighbors and find out about the "issues" in our neighborhood, which was quite interesting. I am now responsible for writing the article that goes in the neighborhood newsletter for this committee. I had been thinking that it would be fun to write for the newsletter, so I am really excited to have a topic and a green light from the group.

Also, we have been getting organized this week. We've cleaned out the office, *started* working on the shed (which is going to be a tedious process, I fear), brought down our winter clothes from storage and reorganized our closet. Mike is teaching me how to sell on eBay and we have 7 auctions going, which is WAY more fun that I thought it was going to be. It's great because we are making a little money and clearing some stuff out of the shed.

At least our eBaying will help offset the cost of the water line that broke in our front yard. Here's the story. Last month we got a note on our door that the city had come to re-read our water meter because it was unusually high. We knew that we had a running toilet, so Mike fixed it and we assumed that the issue was resolved. We've also been cooking a lot more, and we thought that maybe we were using extra water for dishes too. The water bill came in about $100 more than usual, but because we thought that we had fixed the problem, we just paid it and didn't think too much about it.

Well, on Sunday, Mike came inside from mowing the lawn and informed me that there was a HUGE wet spot in the yard. We called the city first thing Monday morning and they told us that our current water bill is at $395. Holy Mackerel! Needless to say, we called a plumber and had it taken care of that day. I called the city back and asked if they could help us out since we didn't know it was a leak, and they said that once the bill generates and they can confirm that we aren't using as much water, they can prorate the bill. Thank goodness!

This coming Saturday morning we are going to work on a Habitat house with Mike's company. I don't know what phase the house is in, but it's a great charity to work for because a. it makes you feel good and b. you learn how to do projects that are really handy for your own place too. Rach, remember when we built the floor of that porch? Hopefully this weekend will be a little easier than that day! :)

Mike and I are also going on Saturday afternoon to visit my grandparents for the night...

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather as much as I am!
